Rapist freed after finishing rehab in Chicago
An off-duty Chicago policeman shot and killed a black man who got away fr바카라사이트om him after he made a run for it during an apparent robbery, authorities said.
The officer, the Chicago Police Department spokesman said, was responding to reports of a vehicle break-in after officers responded to a rob더킹카지노bery call around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. An off-duty officer, who was on foot, encountered a white woman on the street and she fired at him, police said.
The officer’s partner shot and killed the suspect without saying a word to the victim, police said. The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to Stroger Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder. The officer is on administrative leave pending the investigation.
The suspect was taken into custody in the 2100 block of South Saginaw, where he fled into a nearby apartment complex.
Two months ago, a black man was shot dead by a white officer in Chicago’s South Side after he attempted to run from police in what was deemed an aggressive and erratic manner. A grand jury decided there were not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against the officer.
The officer, who is black, is an eight-year veteran of the department who was on a paid administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation into the shooting.
A memorial service was planned at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for the officer’s death and police Chief Garry McCarthy and the chief of the Chicago Police Department said his thoughts and prayers are with the officer’s family and fri바카라사이트ends.
„There is no place for this sort of violence. There is no place for this kind of conduct, and the members of the Chicago Police Department should be held to a much higher standard than this type of conduct,“ said McCarthy. „We’ve seen in Ferguson and we’ve seen in Baltimore and this does not reflect who this department is, its values or our mission and our resolve.“
The officer’s partner remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The department said officers involved in this incident were being assigned new patrol shifts.
In an interview with WBEZ earlier this month, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the shooting occurred as the two officers were investigating a suspected armed carjacking.
CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told WBEZ the responding officer fired two shots into the car, killing the suspect and fleeing in another vehicle.
